2nd Term

Phew, It's been a while since my last update! We're currently following a 36 week curriculum, and are working on week 19. We've been playing catch up since we took a break around the holidays. This week everyone has been under the weather so we haven't been doing much formal work. The nice thing is that even when I am too sick to read from a book Alejandro is at the age where he can work on his own when necessary.

These last couple months we have been working on our addition facts until I feel that Ali really has them down before moving on to Subtraction.

Basically our work has been to have all these facts down cold:

I've stopped crossing them off, but we just finished with memorizing the line on the diagonal starting with 9+1 to 5+5 to complete the page. Hopefully we'll be moving onto some Subtraction next week.

Today we had a little fun with "Making pizzas". I told Alejandro to make a pizza that would feed 8 people.

Aminah has fun too!

Aside from Math, we've read from our Geography books to learn how to tell direction by the Sun, The Stars, and a compass. Reading consists of reading from our Aesop's Fables book, and our McGuffey's Eclectic Readers. Aside from that Alejandro has ample time throughout the day to read whatever books he comes across, though he still prefers to make up his own stories. We need to resume our Arabic and Piano lessons which have fallen to the wayside since we took a little Holiday break.
