Letter

Dear Benjamin & Linda Merson

Superintendent Mark Prince has approved your request to home school your child. This letter is just the first step in what I hope will be a supportive relationship for the huge task you have ahead in the coming academic year.

As most of you know, there is a growing wealth of resources available to homeschooling families both on-line and in local libraries. Locally, the Artspace Community Arts Center has many formalized programs for students of all ages. Their website can be found at www.franklyarts.com. Also, the Pioneer Valley Homeschooling Group contact is just in our backyard, Anne Waters @367-7506, website: www.pvhg.net. Using these resources allows many families to access filed trips to UMass and other cultural events, receive special advantages/programs that school groups can use when visiting museums or other educational facilities, and supports your efforts in general.

Please remember to send a progress report to the district in January and final report in June. The January progress report will not apply to you this year.

I wish you great success and deep gratification in your academic work with your child.

Sincerely,
Walter Solzak
Director of Special Education & Student Services
