Well, she is the woman whose methods we will be teaching and implementing in our home for the years to come, God willing.
Her motto (or at least one of them) is: "Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life"
She has written numerous books for parents, and mothers specifically on how to home school, but if you would like to get a jist of her educational philosophy wikipedia does a decent job here.
While Ben and I value the classical education model, Grammar, Dialectic, and Rhetoric, as outlined in the book, "The Well Trained Mind", after researching the similarities and differences between their method and Charlotte Mason's we agreed that for our children, Charlotte Mason's methods would make a better fit. It is less strict in the earlier years, and doesn't introduce memorizing for the sake of memorizing, or in the case of Alejandro's current kindergarten, memorizing for the sake of memorizing silly poems.
I will leave you all with one of my favorite quotes from Charlotte Masons School Education: Developing A Curriculum:
“The question is not, -- how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education -- but how much does he care? and about how many orders of things does he care? In fact, how large is the room in which he finds his feet set? and, therefore, how full is the life he has before him?”
